Frequently Asked Questions
- I cannot see any fuel prices. What's going on?
- This is a known issue that affects some of our users. We're working on a fix. In the meantime, go to the iPhone Settings, scroll to AthensBook, tap on it to see the application options and choose your desired fuel type again. Next time you run the application it should be working fine. Question marks will still appear whenever we don't have the price for a given gas station.
- When will you be adding more types of Points of Interest?
- We are rigorously gathering and processing point-of-interest (POI) data and will be adding them to new versions of AthensBook in the near future! You can see some of the POI categories that will be added in future versions of AthensBook by visiting the Contribute page, where you can also add your own favorite places to AthensBook. If you'd like to see a specific type of POI added to AthensBook, drop us a line, here.
- I love AthensBook, but I don't have an iPhone. Will you release it for other phones?
- Yes! We're currently preparing an Android version which should be available on the Android Market soon. We're also considering other platforms, like the BlackBerry, but nothing is certain. It depends on many factors, including demand.
- Does AthensBook work with 3G/GPRS connections?
- Yes! AthensBook uses any available internet connection when you try to use it. Note that for 3G/GPRS connections to work properly you may need a contract with your mobile phone provider that supports use of the Cellular Data Network. This may, in some cases, incur additional charges to your mobile phone bill.
- The fuel prices on AthensBook do not match those on the gas station. Why?
- AthensBook collects and updates the reported fuel prices on a daily basis. However, since reporting of gas prices is purely voluntary, the prices reported by AthensBook may differ from those on the gas stations. Still, the prices are often indicative of the pricing policy of gas stations and we've found them useful when trying to decide where to buy fuel from.
- My location is frequently misreported. What's going on here?
- The iPhone 3G uses a number of different methods for identifying your geographical location. Still, it's not perfect: Depending on whether you're indoors or outdoors, the cellular network signal strength, available Wi-Fi hotspots in the vincinity etc. your location may be pinpointed to a few metres or a few kilometres.
- I have upgraded to the iPhone 3GS and, after transferring data from my old iPhone via iTunes, AthensBook will no longer display any POIs. What gives?
- This is a known issue, which will be resolved in the next update. For the time being, the only solution is to uninstall and reinstall AthensBook. Apologies for the inconvenience.
